Rainwater Harvesting Tank Sizing: A Case in Urban Catchments in Metro Cebu

چکیده
Abstract Rainwater is an abundant resource in the Philippines and when properly collected managed, can help address flood problems. harvesting has been practiced for years viewed as one of better options mitigation urban areas compared to other storm water management practices. It does not require large land area cost per high these locations. However, there a challenge selecting suitable tank size. This paper investigates if increase stormwater runoff brought about by changes landuse urbanized catchments be represented single coefficient similar what being presented Philippine Green Building Code local ordinances country. Simulations through HEC-HMS three Metro Cebu showed that volume highly varying such produced each catchment was so distinct no average drawn. Thus, analysis should catchment-based determine size rainwater systems option mitigation.

Detention Basin Sizing for Small Urban Catchments
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) method for sizing small detention and retention basins is a volume-based approach that is sensitive to the release rate. In practice, such a release rate is often approximated by open channel hydraulics or culvert hydraulics. Without a consistent guideline, this practice of approximation can result in significant discrepancy or violation of the volume b...
متن کاملMandatory urban rainwater harvesting: learning from experience.
Rainwater harvesting is effectively mandated in several urban areas of New Zealand. To understand the costs and benefits of rainwater harvesting from an end-user perspective, semistructured interviews were conducted with 14 homeowners in northern Auckland affected by these regulations. Residents report differences in four aspects of urban rainwater infrastructure - security of supply, water qua...
متن کاملRainwater harvesting: A gardening necessity in semi-arid regions
This research aims to introduce the water supply method required for pistachio orchards in semi-arid climatic regions using the rainwater harvesting technique. For this purpose, a rain catchment system with an area of 1000 m2 was constructed at the Tasuj Station site. Based on the mean annual rainfall of the region, runoff threshold, runoff coefficient for insulation surfaces and the area of th...
متن کاملSustainable urban water supply in south India: Desalination, efficiency improvement, or rainwater harvesting?
[1] Indian megacities face severe water supply problems owing to factors ranging from growing population to high municipal pipe leakage rates; no Indian city provides 24/7 water supply. Current approaches to addressing the problem have been “utility centric,” overlooking the significance of decentralized activities by consumers, groundwater extraction via private wells, and aquifer recharge by ...
متن کاملA framework for supporting rainwater harvesting in the UK.
Numerous policy vehicles have been introduced in the UK promoting the use of rainwater harvesting (RWH). However, an 'implementation deficit' exists where legislation limits action by failing to provide adequate support mechanisms. This study uses an interdisciplinary approach to construct a framework to address the issue of overcoming this deficit. Evidence bases have identified six deficit ca...
